Land traction and naval propulsion
Since 2005 ACM Engineering has been involved in these rapidly expanding sectors. Over the course of these years, there have been many national and international projects carried out in collaboration with universities, research bodies and companies of primary importance in the sector. nautical and E-mobility acquiring essential know-how in satisfying the most stringent customer needs in terms of performance and efficiency while minimizing dimensions and weights.
All components are produced within the company, this allows us to provide customers with a customized product to better meet the needs of each individual application by following the study, design and development phases in collaboration with the client.
Our company designs and builds engines and generators dedicated to both hybrid and full electric naval propulsion in any voltage range desired by the customer and with power up to 300 kW.
Our solutions in the automotive world are based on the principle of permanent magnet synchronous motors and range from full-electric traction, to hybrid solutions, up to electrifiable auxiliary services. Furthermore, our solutions can be combined with any power drive the customer wishes to use.
Overview of application types in the naval propulsion sector:

Hybrid in helix axis
the electric machine is placed between the internal combustion engine and the inverter, performing the dual function of propulsion engine and generator for recharging the on-board batteries. In this type of applications the electric motor typically has a hollow through shaft and its particular design allows for minimizing the axial size by integrating directly with the coupling flanges on the diesel side and inverter side.

Full electric
In this configuration, propulsion is entrusted exclusively to the electric motor which can be installed directly on the propeller shaft, or through the interposition of an azimuth propulsion device with or without integrated rudder with a view to increasing maneuverability while reducing consumption.

Integrated motor
Our company is able to supply electric motors and generators that can be fully integrated into the customer's mechanics. Our electric machines can be incorporated into the flywheel of the diesel engine or integrated into the clutch structure or they can be installed inside submerged PODs for purely electric, silent and high-efficiency propulsion.
Overview of application types in the E-mobility sector:

Full electric
In this configuration, traction is exclusively entrusted to the electric motor powered by the batteries on board the vehicle. The electric motor can be installed upstream of the gearbox to replace the internal combustion engine, a preferable solution mainly on heavy vehicles or high-performance vehicles. For ease of use, the electric motor can be installed directly on the mechanical differential reducer, a preferable choice for electrifying light vehicles.

Hybrid series
In the serial hybrid there is always the co-presence of two electric machines, one integral with the internal combustion engine which performs the functions of generator for charging the batteries and the other which is responsible for the task of traction. In this type of application the internal combustion engine never provides propulsive power but exclusively performs the function of range extender in relation to the electric traction motor.

Parallel hybrid
These are the most widespread hybrid applications, in this case the electric machine performs the dual function of generator and traction motor, in aid of the internal combustion engine or in complete autonomy. The electric motor is installed downstream of the endothermic in combination with an automatic gearbox or a CVT system.
